There was also time to visit Krk, the largest Croatian island. We aimed for Baška, a historic town on the southeastern end of the island, primarily because of the nearby hiking and cycling routes. However, Baška deserves a visit for many reasons.
Both Krk and Baška are located just a few hours from the city centers of European metropolises, and Baška is a cultural center with the most famous written monument of Croatian culture from 1,100 years ago, with a centuries-old tourist tradition and has developed into a vacation spot for many curious people.
It’s worth exploring and finding out more information HERE.
Kamp Mali
When we arrived (at the beginning of October), the two larger camps in Baška were closed. Camp Mali was the only camp that was open.
As its name suggests, the camp is small (some thirty pitches). It is a square space through which a circular path with access to the plots passes. In the central part is a building with toilets and showers. The ground is flat everywhere, and low metal fences mark the plots. They are big enough, and electricity and water are readily available. Everything together looks immaculate, airy, and calm.
The camp itself is about fifty meters away from the coast, from where you can immediately walk along the sea or bike ride on some of the good and interesting trails.
We are delighted with our stay and would probably choose that camp again, even if the bigger ones were open.
Kamp Mali Score
Location: It is in the city, near the shore, and everything is within walking distance. Our score is 10.
Environment: It is not exactly nature (surrounded by buildings and houses), but there is still a lot of green around you. Score: 8
Accessibility: The camp is easy to find, the entrance is wide enough, and there is enough space for maneuvering your camper or trailer. Our score is 10.
Functionality: Everything works, but it is a little bit modest. Our score is 8.
Comfort: The toillet and shower building are not closed, which is great for summer but not so for colder days. Our score is 8.
Hospitality: Very relaxed and non-formal approach by the hosts. Nice feeling. Score: 10.
Added values: 10 + 9 + 6 = 8
Our score for sports activities: 10; cultural activities: 9; gastronomy: 6. Average: 8
The camp is an excellent starting point for exploring the sounds of Baška. You can hike, bike, walk, or swim. The cuisine is more traditional Croatian (which is not great for delicate gourmands or vegans), but we found an extra-quality Italian ice cream shop!
Will we return?
Yes, of course! Baška has a lot to offer, and Kamp Mali is just the right place to stay while exploring the place.
