The summer of 2024 was very hot, so we waited two months for a suitable day to climb the peak of Sv. Ilija. Going there became a kind of tradition for us (see previous articles “Spur of the moment”, 2023, and “Mons Vipera (Sv. Ilija)”, 2022). In those articles, you can find detailed information about the place, the track, and the joy of hiking it.

This time (4h30min, 15,50 km, see the details on Strava https://www.strava.com/activities/12066270608 ), we will leave you with a couple of quotes, many pictures and one beautiful video coverage. Enjoy!

“The summit is what drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.” —Conrad Anker

“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than what we could learn from books.” —John Lubbock

“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.” —David McCullough Jr.

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wears you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” —Muhammad Ali

And two more from the “ground level”… :-)
