We started from the Motovun Camping. It was quite easy to find the entrance on the trail (500 meters on the main road from camp). After that, we just followed the signs (which were not clear in some places, so downloading the GPS track was a good idea – you can do it HERE).

What to say? This was our first time in the middle Istria region, and we are positively delighted about – everything. It is a cyclist’s paradise.

No 603 (Stara Ferata, The Old Railway) actually goes around Motovun hill. Partially, it follows the much longer Parenzana trail (around 100 km). It is a trail only for cyclists and walkers and goes up and down through the forest and vineyards. It is mostly pleasant and easy to ride. We enjoyed it immensely – as you can see in the pictures which will describe the scenery much better than words.

The only thing is that the last part of the trail (for us it was from the small town of Vižinada downhill and back to Motovun) is quite rocky and difficult to ride. I doubt that a trekking bike would make it, so MTB is obligatory.

The trail is 22,63 km long, and we spend around 2 hours on it (with some longer pauses for sightseeing and taking photos). If you find yourself around Motovun, it is one of the few trails you can ride (approximately the same length) that actually circle the Motovun hill. Enjoy!
