Nothing compares to the rush of a windsurfer tearing open a package containing fresh gear. I’ve experienced this thrill countless times, but today feels special – I’m unwrapping not one but two pristine LoftSails SkyBlade 2025 models, still crackling with factory-fresh newness.
I couldn’t resist the hefty post-season markdown, even though I won’t unfurl these beauties until next year. While the serious racers are already securing their gear for the coming season, I’m just in it for the pure joy—and these SkyBlades deliver precisely that. The online photos barely did justice to what now sits before me: that signature LoftSails orange-and-black palette, now elevated with gleaming gold lettering along the sail pocket. After years of trusting my weight to LoftSails through countless gusts and lulls, I can tell at a glance that these maintain their legendary durability. Every seam, every reinforcement point—it’s all there, promising seasons of reliable performance.
The official LoftSails catalog describes their SkyBlade innovation like this:
“The Skyblade sail is an extension of Loftsails’ racing program, developed to maximize the performance of low-drag hydrofoils. This advanced design is tailored for competitive racing and fully adheres to PWA rules.
The Skyblade’s design objective is top speed and control during flight. It features radically high aspect ratios and notably wide mast pockets, both contributing to balance and comfort in flight mode. The sail also incorporates a lower foot, reduced vertical shaping, and more aggressive batten angles, which enhance aerodynamics and provide the rig with exceptional stability.
The wide mast pockets require firm tension to maintain efficient airflow. Drawing inspiration from the Racingblade fin slalom program, the Skyblade adopts its unique mast pocket construction.”

As for me, when I embraced foiling, I simultaneously abandoned my camber sails for LoftSails’ SkyScape series. The difference was immediate—like trading a muscle car for a sports coupe. The rig feels featherlight in my hands, jibes flow with ballet-like grace, and there’s an undeniable playfulness to every session. Yet on those days when the wind pulses erratically or when I’m hunting for that extra burst of acceleration, I’ve started to miss the unwavering authority of a four-camber competition sail. My improving foil technique has begun to outpace what my non-camber sails can deliver, leaving me craving that rock-solid platform only a proper race sail provides.
So here they are in all their glory—8.0 and 7.0 square meters of cutting-edge design, mine to command. Very soon, these SkyBlades will taste salt spray for the first time. You can bet I’ll report back with every exhilarating detail.
