Day One
Our time at Camp Omišalj afforded us the opportunity for a pair of leisurely cycling excursions, both beginning right at the campsite’s edge.
The first day’s journey took us toward Njivice. We had anticipated hugging the coastline on smooth pavement or packed gravel, but instead found ourselves winding through dense forest along a segment of the celebrated Camino Krk trail system.

This section of the trail offers smooth riding that even a standard trekking bike could manage without much difficulty. We paused our return journey at a sheltered bay near Njivica, where the crystalline waters beckoned irresistibly. Despite the calendar reading October, the persistent summer warmth had kept the Adriatic at a perfect temperature for an impromptu swim.

Day Two
For our second excursion, we set our sights on the renowned Biseruljka cave. Following another segment of the Camino Krk trail, we pedaled along coastal paths with the majestic Velebit mountain range commanding the horizon. The final stretch featured a challenging series of undulations—terrain better suited to hikers than to cyclists. Only those with sturdy mountain bikes could hope to navigate it without dismounting. Nevertheless, we found unexpected joy in occasionally shouldering our bicycles—these moments of effort somehow enhancing rather than diminishing the day’s adventure.

We arrived to find Biseruljka’s entrance shuttered for the season. Still, this minor disappointment barely registered as we basked in the golden October sunlight, reminded that the journey itself had already delivered everything we’d truly sought.
