Just before the winter solstice of 2024, we visited another gem of the Croatian islands: Rab. Unfortunately, we didn’t have bikes because Rab is much more interesting on two wheels than on foot. However, just northeast of Rab, there is a hill peaking at about 400 meters above sea level.
It is hard to call this a mountaineering goal, but if you start from the coast, those 400 meters are not insignificant. From the road you turn off in the settlement of Mundanije, the trail is well-marked, and the view from it is worth the effort.
The whole adventure took us 2 hours and 43 minutes. We covered a little over 11 kilometers, and you can download the GPX track from Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/13127280956

The path winds up along the ridge all the way to Vidilica. It is a stone platform with benches offering a stunning view of Rab, the sea, and the island of Lošinj.
The summit of Kamenjak is less impressive than the path leading to it. After Vidilica, your view will rest on the colossal Velebit. At the highest point, you’ll find a stone pyramid and, unfortunately, a fenced-in telecommunications facility that definitely mars the environment and the enjoyment of reaching the summit.

After a short rest at the top, we returned via the access dirt road, which offers equally beautiful views. We planned to come down to the coast, but the path brought us back to the access road to Kamenjak, so we made a small circular route around the hill. All in all, it is a lovely and easy walk. We assume it will be hot in summer on the slopes of Kamenjak, but other seasons—including winter—are ideal times to visit the island of Rab.
